Timothée Chalamet Aspires to Join the Ranks of Great Actors

Timothée Chalamet clinched the Screen Actors Guild Award for best actor during Sunday evening's ceremony, winning over a strong field of competitors. The 29-year-old actor was visibly shocked by his victory and expressed gratitude to his mother, stating, “I was not expecting this at all.”

Chalamet went on to praise the effort that went into playing the role of Bob Dylan in the biopic A Complete Unknown, saying, “This was five-and-a-half years of my life. I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist Mr. Bob Dylan, a true American hero.” He added, “It was the honor of a lifetime playing him.”

The rising star thanked his fellow cast members Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Edward Norton, and the production crew before expressing his desire to be considered one of the great actors. He said, “I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats. I’m inspired by the greats here tonight. I’m as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there.”

Chalamet's win was seen as an upset, with his competition including Daniel Craig, Colman Domingo, Ralph Fiennes, and Adrien Brody. His SAG triumph makes him the youngest performer to win the best actor category at these awards.

The dual Oscar nominee will now compete for the best actor Oscar on March 2, fueled by his SAG victory. As he put it, “This doesn’t signify that [he's reached greatness], but it provides a little more fuel and ammo to keep going.”
