Rihanna Surprises Fans with Special Guest Appearance by Jay-Z at Yankee Stadium Show

Highlights

  • Rihanna surprised fans at Jay-Z's final Yankee Stadium show on July 12.
  • She performed "Run This Town" and "Bitch Better Have My Money."
  • The star-studded night also featured Beyoncé, Usher, Pharrell, and more.

Rihanna proved she hasn't lost a step. The Fenty mogul sent Yankee Stadium into a frenzy Sunday night when she popped up alongside Jay-Z during the third and final show of his sold-out residency, delivering a two-song set that instantly became the moment of the night.

Rocking a sleek black leather look with fur accents and oversized shades, Rihanna greeted the Bronx crowd with total honesty before diving in. "Y'all know I'm rusty, right? It's been a while. Y'all with me right now?" she asked, and the stadium answered with a roar.

She then tore through "Run This Town" alongside Jay-Z before staying onstage solo for "Bitch Better Have My Money," the 2015 hit that's since crossed a billion streams on Spotify.

The Jay-Z concert wasn't short on star power. Beyoncé, Usher, Pharrell Williams, Jeezy, Swizz Beatz, Clipse, Jadakiss, Fat Joe, Jermaine Dupri, Teyana Taylor, and The-Dream all made appearances across the marathon set, which ran nearly three hours and stretched to almost 50 songs. Rihanna's partner, A$AP Rocky, was also spotted in the crowd.

The night got off to a rocky start. The show was delayed for hours after officials closed the gates amid a rush of fans outside the venue, and Jay-Z addressed the chaos directly from the stage before promising the crowd a night to remember: "We're going to go until like 5 a.m., so don't be scared."

The residency capped a run that celebrated the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint, with Jay-Z set to bring the show next to London, Paris, and Los Angeles.

For Rihanna, whose live performances have become increasingly rare since she stepped back from music after 2016's ANTI to build her Fenty empire and focus on motherhood, the appearance was a reminder of exactly what fans have been missing. Her most recent public performance before Sunday came in 2024, at the lavish pre-wedding celebration for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant in India.

Naturally, the surprise set has reignited chatter about R9, Rihanna's long-rumored ninth studio album. She's insisted new music is coming, but for one night at Yankee Stadium, the only thing that mattered was watching a legend remind everyone she never really left.
