Margot Robbie Reveals Her Bold Choice for a Nude Scene in The Wolf of Wall Street
Margot Robbie recently shared that it was her decision to film a full-frontal scene in the 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.
Reflecting on her breakout role, the 34-year-old actress explained that she felt it was essential for her character to appear fully nude during a seductive moment with DiCaprio’s character. "That’s not what she would do in that scene," Margot stated on the Talking Pictures podcast, responding to director Martin Scorsese's suggestion for her to wear a robe. "The whole point is that she’s going to come out completely naked—that’s the card she’s playing."
This wasn't the only bold move Margot made during production. While auditioning for the film, she took a creative risk that left her feeling apprehensive. "I thought, I could kiss Leonardo DiCaprio right now, and that would be awesome," she recalled. "But then I thought…nah. And just walloped him in the face."
Margot admitted she was nervous about how both Leonardo and Martin would react to her unexpected action. "It was dead silence for what felt like an eternity but was probably three seconds," she shared. "Then they just burst out laughing. Leo and Marty were laughing so hard, they said, 'That was great.'
She added, "I was thinking, 'I’m going to get arrested; I’m pretty sure that’s assault, battery. Not only will you never work again, actually you will go to jail for this, you idiot.' And also why did you have to hit him so hard? You should have done it lighter.'
Throughout filming, Margot often surprised her co-star with her candidness. She recounted an incident where they were adjusting their positions while lighting a scene: "I kind of pushed Leo's head to one side and told him he was in my light." She noted how incredulous he seemed at being asked to move out of her way: "'Did you really just do that?'"
"I don't think anyone has told him to get out of their light in quite some time," she added with a chuckle. "He seemed extremely shocked, but it was kind of funny."
